Transportation
Attendees have the option of either driving themselves to the Feral! campsite, or riding to and from the camp on the Feral! bus. If you experience any difficulties during your travel to Arowhon or Yorkdale, there are a few phone numbers you can call, which we will be e-mailing to you as Feral! approaches.
If You Wish to Drive Yourself To Feral!
Directions: Camp Arowhon has decent driving directions and a map on their website. Follow the directions for "Camp Arowhon", not "Arowhon Pines".
Please be aware that Camp Arowhon is located some distance inside Algonquin Park, on a fairly well-maintained but not perfectly flat gravel road. Parking is free. You should aim to arrive between 5 and 6:30 pm on Monday, August 27th. The camp gates will be locked until 5 pm, so you cannot arrive any earlier than then. Please note: if the gates are open Camp Arowhon staff requests that you remain in the parking lot until 5 pm as they are still making preparations for the event. Please register at the Main Lodge (the dining hall: there will be signs to direct you) when you arrive. Dinner is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.
If You Wish to Take The Chartered Feral! Bus
If you plan to take the Feral! Bus, you must send in an additional amount with your registration fee to reserve a spot on the bus. If there is still space available, we will accept payment on-the-spot, but don't be left out -- seating is limited and the bus is always very full! It helps us greatly for planning purposes to know if you are taking the bus, so please update your registration with the correct information!
The chartered Feral! bus will leave from the north parking lot of Yorkdale Shopping Centre (which is at 3401 Dufferin Street, Toronto, Ontario) at 2:00pm on Sunday, August 24. Directions to Yorkdale can be found on their website, which links to several pages with transportation options. If you are flying to Toronto, the public transit system from Lester B. Pearson airport is excellent and there are several options to get you to Yorkdale Mall, which is "Yorkdale Station" on the subway line. If you are having difficult planning a route, please contact Branwyn well before Feral! at lion@campferal.org for assistance.
We strongly recommend that you make sure your flight is scheduled to arrive no later than 12:00pm on Sunday, to ensure that you have enough time to get to Yorkdale. Similarly, your flight should be scheduled to leave no earlier than 6pm on Thursday, to give you time to get to the airport from Yorkdale. For flights outside of these times which cannot be rescheduled, contact Potoroo at roo@campferal.org to make arrangements.
The meeting spot at Yorkdale Mall is inside the mall, in front of the Bay, at the cascading fountain in the courtyard. Potoroo will be there-- look for the guy with the pink mohawk!
Please note that you cannot leave your car in the parking lot of Yorkdale Mall, or it will be towed by the time you return from Feral!
While You Are In Toronto
While you are in Toronto before and after Feral!, be aware that parking is never free in the downtown area, and rates generally range from CA$5 to CA$20 per day, or $0.75 to $2 per hour. The City of Toronto recommends that visitors should use the many subways, streetcars, and buses provided by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Information about fares, and route maps are available from the TTC's web site and maps are also generally available free of charge at subway ticket booths.
The Weekends Before and After Feral!
In 2008 Feral! roughtly takes place between two weekends and the Camp Feral! staff will have special events planned for this time period. As they are developed they will be listed here on the Camp Feral! website. If you have ideas for events you would like to see take place before or after Feral!, please contact us at info@campferal.org.
